Many thanks to the La Jolla Playhouse and its fine staff, as well as the Veterans Tickets Foundation for providing us with tickets for last night's showing of the stage play, "Junk: The Golden Age of Debt." Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ayad Akhtar wrote this amazing play, chronicling the junk bond era of the '80s, featuring stories of greed and the manufacturing of wealth from nothing but borrowing against borrowing. It's now obvious that people from that era - junk bond kings like Michael Milliken - made deals and became wealthy on the backs of hard-working people, yet only cared about the deals themselves, and the money they could create out of thins air, and not the welfare of the rest of America. A cautionary tale that will make it to Broadway soon, because it is that good. And the evening was rounded out by the La Jolla Playhouse setting up a special event for the military and veterans who attended. There was a special seating section outside of the theater. There were musicians, a food truck, and free beer tastings sponsored by San Diego's Modern Times Brewing Company. What a treat! We all felt like VIPs. Another fantastic event that I'm grateful to VetTix.org for. Thank you!
